Runs Windows games on Linux, with the configuration scripts already written

Open Source No Ads No Tracking No Sign-up

A game manager and launcher for Linux. It brings Steam, GOG, Epic, emulators and Wine-run Windows games under one library, and community-maintained install scripts set up the right Wine build, dependencies and launch options for each game so you do not have to work it out.

Why we picked it

GPL-3.0, 10,200 stars.

Wine can run Windows programs, but between "can" and "does" sits a pile of detail: which Wine build, which DLLs, DXVK on or off, which environment variables. The same game needs different settings across versions, and working it out yourself costs evenings.

Lutris's value is the community script library. Someone else's working configuration is saved as an install script; you click once and it builds that environment. Not every game works, but common ones have usually been walked through by somebody.

Non-Steam games land in one library too: GOG purchases, Epic giveaways, old disc images, and ROMs for the emulators listed here, all launched from the same interface.

To be clear about:

  • Linux only. On Windows there is nothing for it to do.
  • Most multiplayer games with kernel anti-cheat will not run. That is the anti-cheat vendors' restriction, not a flaw here.
  • Scripts depend on community upkeep, so obscure titles may have none and need manual setup.
