FreeA terminal with deep AI integration — but no fully offline mode
An AGPL-3.0 terminal with 64,288 stars that treats AI as core rather than a plugin. The login requirement was dropped in November 2024 and the client was open-sourced in April 2026. But the project states plainly that being logged out is not the same as being offline: telemetry still goes out when signed out (it can be disabled), team and some AI features still require an account, fully offline use is unsupported, and the Oz cloud orchestration platform remains closed.
Why we picked it
Warp has the deepest AI integration of this group, 64,288 stars, with the client open-sourced under AGPL-3.0 in April 2026.
One thing needs stating plainly, because it differs in kind from the other terminals. In the post announcing that login was no longer required, Warp itself wrote: being logged out != being offline. Telemetry still flows when signed out — it can be turned off — team features and some AI features still need an account, and fully offline use is not supported. Its Oz cloud orchestration platform also remains closed source.
A terminal is where you type passwords, paste keys and connect to production. That is not the same order of concern as a note app wanting the network, which is why we do not give it the offline or no-tracking badges here.
If you want the features and accept that layer, it is the most complete experience available. If you do not, the other seven all run with the network unplugged.
